Philip Gilliland

The Business and Commercial Property practice area is headed by Philip Gilliland who in addition to his legal experience has over ten years of senior management experience in international sourcing and organisation building. A native of Derry, he was educated at University of Edinburgh, University of Pennsylvania (MA History), and the College of Law in London and Chester. Philip qualified as an English Solicitor in 1993 and worked for Clifford Chance in the City of London and in Brussels before moving back to Derry to work in a non-legal capacity for international clothing manufacturer Desmond & Sons Ltd for seven years, Marks & Spencer plc for three years (Sourcing Director Children’s wear) and then J. Sainsbury plc (General Manager Asia), all of which gave him extensive commercial experience in the developing markets of China, South Asia and Eastern Europe. He has been a partner at Caldwell & Robinson since 2004.

Barry Donnelly

Barry joined Cuff Roberts Solicitors in Liverpool in 2002, having graduated from Queens University Belfast in Law and Politics and having sat his professional examinations in the College of Law in Chester. In 2004 Barry joined top 50 UK law firm Cobbetts LLP’s commercial property team in Manchester. In 2005 Barry joined top 50 UK law form Halliwells LLP’s commercial property team in Liverpool, where his typical clients were key plc and institutional clients and regional mid-market owner-managed businesses. He gained a wide variety of experience in various types of property transactions including disposals and acquisitions of both registered and unregistered freehold and leasehold property, and the negotiation of commercial leases.

In particular Barry has experience dealing with:

Sale and purchase agreements, including auction contracts relating to the sale and purchase of commercial and residential property.

Agreements for lease and leases relating to offices, industrial units and shops, dealing with exclusion of security of tenure from business leases.

Estate Management including dealing with licences for assignment, under-letting and alterations.

Corporate support work involving preparation of detailed reports on title and have experience in dealing with the City of London Law Society Long Form Certificate of Title.

Barry joined Caldwell & Robinson in November 2008 and is specialising in the fields of commercial and residential property in Northern Ireland , England and the Republic of Ireland.
